Steve DiTullio Interviewed

Submitted by Nick on Thu, 04/30/2009 - 14:22.

Steve was recently interviewed by PocketFives.com. Steve is quickly becoming a famous poker player along with being one of the best assistant producer's in the northeast US.

DiTullio became interested in poker as a kid while playing cards with his mother. His interest was piqued even further in 1998 and 2002, when he caught telecasts of Scotty Nguyen and Robert Varkonyi, respectively, winning the World Series of Poker Main Event. From there, his experience was rather typical. He recalled, “My friends and I started a home game where we played a very bad version of Texas Hold’em. It essentially became a super turbo capped game. From there, I began playing online.”

Something Remote Story in the Spencer New Leader

Submitted by Nick on Sat, 03/14/2009 - 22:30.

Joy Richard, New Leader Staff Writer, recently attended a screening of Something Remote. She wrote about the movie Friday's edition of the New Leader.

This movie is full of popular culture references, along with jokes that tie into other
films.
“Our movie caters to an audience that is in the know when it comes to pop culture and random references. It is a movie for the fans by fans,” said Laferriere, the director. Laferriere is from Dudley and went to Shepherd Hill Regional High School, as did Allain, who lives in Charlton. They met while working on Shepherd Hill’s morning television program, “The A.M. Show.”

Submitted by Nick on Fri, 03/06/2009 - 23:41.

Just wanted to raise everyone's attention to a great article in this month's Pulse Magazine about Broken Wall Films. Here's a snippet:

Their baby, Something Remote, is certainly the standout, but each item in their body of work speaks of a talent and enthusiasm that will continue to mature and entertain for a good long time to come. In other words, more standouts are sure to be coming our way.

WPI Athletics: Inside the Game Article

Submitted by Nick on Fri, 02/20/2009 - 17:53.

WPI Athletics has a new feature called "Inside the Game" where they take a close look at the success stories of the folks involved in the program. Today's article was on our very own Alex Laferriere and his experience with WPI football and Broken Wall Films. It's a fantastic read for anyone who would like check it out:

Laferriere, an Interactive Media and Game Development (IMGD) major, had developed an interest in film a long time ago, while a student under Sean Cusick at Shepherd Hill Regional High School in his native Dudley, MA. His work as an IMGD major cemented this interest, which he began to pursue full-bore as his WPI career continued. Following his junior year, Alex spent a month in South Africa on a film internship that would drastically change his senior year at WPI. While in South Africa, Alex was inspired by both his internship and his life at WPI, and began work on a screenplay that would depict his experiences and life while residing in a WPI off-campus residence. The 115-page screenplay entitled Something Remote, would become his focus for the next year, thanks to some help from the WPI community.

Broken Wall Films News!

Submitted by Nick on Fri, 02/20/2009 - 04:09.

Debbie LaPlaca, correspondent for the Telegram & Gazette, wrote a great article that appeared in the February 19th in the section called "The Flash". Here's an excerpt from the article and a link to the rest of the article:

Reaching back to his childhood friends, Alex cast John Selig as roommate Erik; Chris as Neil, the roommate trying to cope with a messy breakup; and Rebecca as the ex-girlfriend Lisa.

Steve DiTullio, from Wilmington, met Alex at WPI and joined Broken Wall Films in 2008 to become the feature film’s assistant producer.

The film budget of $300 speaks to the production company’s frugal use of resources and creative use of technology to yield a quality film on what some families would consider the cost of a trip to the movies.

Director Alex Laferriere in the T&G

Submitted by Nick on Wed, 01/14/2009 - 17:06.

Alex got a nod from the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. We'll post the whole article eventually but for now, here's an excerpt and a link to the article:

Football’s loss filmdom’s gain

A dislocated wrist suffered in preseason camp caused WPI offensive lineman Alex Laferriere to miss his senior season, but his time away from the gridiron was well spent.

Laferriere, who is from Dudley, put the finishing touches on his first full-length feature film called “Something Remote,” which basically chronicles Laferriere’s life in his off-campus apartment or, as Laferriere describes the plot, “the story of three friends that wish for nothing more than to be left alone with television and pizza, but a crazy ex-girlfriend isn’t about to let that happen.”

"Thank You" is an Understatement

Submitted by Nick on Sun, 01/11/2009 - 17:30.

From Alex:
I could not have anticipated the turnout that came last night, I am still baffled and humbled. What humbles me even more is the level of satisfaction people got from the movie, I am so pleased as a director, that you all have placed a mantle of responsibility onto me, one which I have desired for sometime, the acceptance and appreciation of our work.

The film was not created by one influence or person, but was the collection of many realities, events, people, places and ideas, I was simply a tailor of these things, piecing together something that I felt people would have enjoyed experiencing. I would like to thank my pawns in the movie, Chris (C/J) Haley, Rick Desilets, and John Selig for their hard work and commitment to the project was no others but their own. The rest of the cast also pulled through in supporting the film, and for that I thank them as well.

I am at a crossroads here, as I face the completion of a movie that means something near and dear to me. This film was an attempt to capture a moment in my life that is soon coming to an end. As for many of the people at the event, myself included, college graduation is upon us and we are faced with the realization that life must change and yet we all secretly desire to make the choice Neil made and stay with our friends and live a life of laziness. Alas we cannot, if I made the choice Neil did, this movie would not exist for all of us, but it does fill me with a sense of bewilderment and appreciation of the life I had in college, with the friends I experienced life with. I loved it so much I had to steal pieces of it for a film.

With new found support and friends from a well-accepted premiere I would like to thank everyone who came out to the Elm for Something Remote. Even more than that, I would like to honor everyone with ability to continue their support of Broken Wall Films by following Something Remote on it’s journey to festivals or colleges near you. A lot of this information can be found at our website www.brokenwallfilms.com and within our forums. We would love to hear your comments and concerns about our film, as I would love to know what was working and not working for people in Something Remote. Also, future projects may be discussed within our forums and the search to new talent and help as well. I am thankful for any responses that people may have, and would like to start a community of loyal fans who have enjoyed our projects and wish for us to continue. Thank you.

From Nick:
We'd like to thank everyone who came last night. It was a tidal wave of support that I don't think I was fully prepared for. I was shocked and amazed at the number of people who came (from my past and from my present) to see what we've been working on for nine months. I've blogged about the event in my blog post called "Rebirth." so be sure to check it out for my complete feelings on the whole night. I'd also like to point out that so many people went home and Google'd "Broken Wall Films" that we jumped up in the search results.

From Steve:
Wow, now that I’ve had a day or so to breath I just want to thank everyone who came out to see the premiere of Something Remote. With nearly 200 people in the seats, laughing at not only the jokes I liked but even some of the scenes I was concerned about the day was fantastic from start to finish. And just for good measure, a standing ovation from the crowd that night was just simply amazing.

The past 24 hours has just been a total adrenaline rush and I can’t thank people enough for showing their support. It’s been a long nine months with plenty of ups and downs but January 9th made all the trouble and headaches worth it. Please be sure to check us out on the forums, check out the new fan page for Something Remote, and keep checking into the homepage for updates on our festival progress. Thanks everyone for making the past nine months worth every minute.
